Utah Ranch Hunting
The Utah ranch is stunning, with diverse habitats and ecosystems. The ranch stretches across rugged pine mountain cliffs, aspen meadows, sage and maple draw, and rolling prairie grasslands. In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the CWMU encompasses 230,000+ acres.
From a hunting perspective, the Utah ranch is remarkable and one of a kind. The property supports tremendous densities and big, high-quality games. This amazing hunting is a 100% fair chase for Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and Shiras moose. Conservation and working with the wildlife are of the utmost importance to the hunting on the ranch. Ranch management, biologists, and Wild Country Inc. manage the harvest age of bucks and bulls to maximize complete trophy and age potential.
Rocky Mountain Elk
With numbers that will astonish, the elk herd on the Utah ranch is nothing short of spectacular. With a 90 bull to 100 cow ratio, mature-class bull elk are not hard to come by. This bull elk hunt is unsurpassed by any elk hunt in the nation because of the quality and quantity of the elk herd. Elk hunting on this ranch is an extremely exciting and rewarding experience.
The elk harvested on the ranch average around 315 B&C. Many bulls, ranging between 310 and 340, are harvested on the ranch. Hunters can expect to have many opportunities to harvest a mature bull.
We have an early season and a later season hunt. Both are amazing hunts; one can expect to harvest just as good of a bull on the late hunt as they would on the early hunt. The early season dates are more physical, with many days of 5-10 miles of hiking. The late-season hunt dates are much less physically demanding if you are physically limited.
Deer
One of the most rewarding but challenging big game animals to hunt is trophy mule deer. The mule deer’s keen senses and elusive nature make it an exciting hunt; whether hunting during the early archery hunts or during the November rut, mule deer hunting is fun.
Our average score for the past ten years has been 170 B&C; many bucks harvested on the Utah Ranch are between 155 and 180. We typically do many buck deer hunts during October or November, but earlier archery hunts are available. Hunters can expect many opportunities to see and harvest a mature buck.
Remember this: big elk hunting is exciting, big pronghorn bucks are fun, but big trophy mule deer are tough! They are tough for reasons other than they are old and wise, reasons we don’t understand. This could include where the concentrations of mule deer in a given herd decide to congregate on their fall range each year or how big bucks can choose to become invisible for some time. This can leave one to think there are no big bucks left. This can change slightly from year to year, and in many cases, it makes no sense. You may not want to hunt mule deer with our company if you don't understand this principle.
No refunds will be returned because you feel a hunt has been misrepresented. Keeping this in mind, most hunters who enjoy the deer hunt on the ranch hunt with us for multiple seasons. Over a five to six-year time span, one can expect tough hunting years, average hunting years, and one to two great years. It’s a cycle for deer in northern Utah. If you are a hunter who can take the more difficult years along with the better ones and understand the difficulties of managing trophy mule deer, come and join us for one of the best mule deer hunts in the country. You may harvest the trophy buck you have always dreamed of!
Pronghorn “American Antelope”
Pronghorn grace the plains on the eastern grasslands of the ranch. Often referred to as the "speed goat,” the pronghorn is fascinating and unique to see on the hoof in the open prairie. With a large pronghorn population, this is a very successful hunt. Whether hunting them in September during the rut or late October when they group in the hundreds, this is a wonderful big game hunt.
We harvest, on average, bucks ranging from 70-75 B&C. Hunters can expect many opportunities to harvest a mature buck.
Moose
An impressive big game animal to see in the field is the Shiras moose. They can stand 5-6.5 feet from hooves to shoulders. Most of our moose hunts are done in October when the leaves are shed from the trees, and many moose can be seen. Many of our hunts produce 35 to 40-inch bull moose. This is a unique big game animal to have on the ranch. There are few places to purchase a Shiras moose hunt without going through a state’s big game application process. Only two to three moose hunting tags are allocated each year for the moose on the ranch. This hunt is very limited.
