Fly FIshing

The fishing on the ranch is unique and diverse. Catch the strongest trophy rainbows on the ranch’s ponds and lakes from the shore or out in a drift boat. Enjoy some of the most pristine mountain streams where abundant, beautiful native cutthroat trout can be caught. Chase hard-fighting brown trout on our private tailwater river. Fishing on the ranch is open and available from the end of April until the beginning of November.

Stillwater

High jumping, reel-singing Rainbows are plentiful in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The 230,000-acre ranch in Northern Utah seems "a million miles from anywhere." The ranch has nine beautiful lakes/ponds for stillwater fishing for trophy rainbow trout. Our Rainbows are healthy, strong, and beautiful. These Rainbows will give you one of the hardest trout fights imaginable.

The ponds and lakes fish great from the end of April through June. Depending on summer heat, water temperatures, snowpack, and runoff, the first third of July can also be great. Once the water temperatures cool down after the summer heat, the Stillwater fishing can be phenomenal from roughly August 20th through the first week of November (depending on ice).

Fishing on the ponds can be enjoyed from a drift boat, pontoon, float tube, or simply from the shore.

All ponds have single barbless hooks and are catch-and-release only.

Stream Fishing (freestone creeks)

The ranch also has four pristine freestone mountain streams for magnificent Cutthroat and Cuttbows. Some of the areas on the streams are very easily accessible, with the main dirt road running alongside the stream. Other areas on the ranch could be a full-day fishing experience with 5-10 miles worth of hiking. Our remote areas of the streams are wild and support a healthy population of Native Bonneville Cutthroats. \

You will enjoy wet wading on a warm day, catching these wonderful Cutthroats on a dry fly.

During certain times of the year (typically May and June), the lower section of these streams supports larger cutthroat and cuttbow trout. Some of these fish can measure in the mid 20 inch mark.

Fishing the streams is great from the tail end of the runoff (end of May and first part of June) through the fall season).

Stream Fishing (tailwater section)

The ranch owns access to a 2-mile tailwater section where one could spend all day chasing brown trout. These fish do not see much pressure and they are willing to take and hit many fly patterns. The beautiful stream meanders through irrigated farm fields. The browns can be caught through traditional nymphing techniques, on big foam dry flies, or on streamer patterns. These browns make this stream extremely exciting and a reward to chase. Brown trout are the most common fish caught in this section, but cutthroats and rainbows are also in this section.

Opportunities

Our lease packages allow families, groups, and companies to use all the ponds and the creeks. The lease programs allow these groups to fish during their summer allotted time or during the fall hunts. Our lease groups can fish these ponds with one or multiple of our professional guides or have more of a DIY experience.

Wild Country Outfitters no longer offers day fishing trips or yearly fishing memberships. Please click here to read about the lease program for fishing opportunities.
